Black Sesame Hot Chocolate With Tsokolate Lola

A nourishing, deeply flavourful twist on your daily cacao ritual. After making a batch of sweet black sesame swirl for some cookies (recipe coming soon), I noticed a thin coating of caramelised sesame left behind in the saucepan. Instead of rinsing it out, I used it as the base for this rich and creamy black sesame tsokolate. The result was too good not to share.

This recipe combines the earthy depth of toasted black sesame with the adaptogenic support of our Lola blend, infused with tulsi and amla to ground and balance. If you haven’t made the sesame swirl from the cookie recipe yet, don’t worry, I've included it below.

Why Tsokolate Lola?

Our Lola blend is ceremonial cacao infused with two powerhouse botanicals:

ingredients

for the black sesame tsokolate

✦ 3 x Tsokolate Lola tableya

✦ 3 tbsp black sesame caramel swirl (a thin coating in the pan is perfect) from this cookie recipe

✦ 200 ml hot water

to make the black sesame caramel swirl from scratch

✦ 200 ml water

✦ 100 ml coconut condensed milk

✦ 2 heaped tsp black sesame paste (made by blending 200g toasted black sesame seeds until smooth or you can use store bought black tahini)

for the black sesame foam

✦ 150 ml plant milk (we used Bonsoy)

✦ 50 ml coconut condensed milk

✦ 2 tsp black sesame paste

method

if using leftover sesame caramel swirl:

✦ Add water, Tsokolate Lola and black sesame caramel swirl to a heat proof milk jug or small saucepan.

✦ Use a hand frother to blend until thick and creamy. Set aside.

to make sesame caramel swirl from scratch:

✦ Toast 2 heaped teaspoons of black sesame seeds and grind into a paste (or use store bought black sesame paste/black tahini).

✦ In a saucepan, combine water, coconut condensed milk, and black sesame paste. Warm gently over low heat.

✦ Transfer to a small jar and follow instructions above.

for the foam:

✦ In a separate small jug, combine soy milk, coconut condensed milk, and black sesame paste.

✦ Froth until a thick foam forms.

to serve:

✦ Pour the black sesame tsokolate into your favourite mug and top with a generous spoonful of the foam. Enjoy warm.
