honouring the lineage of

 Mutya Ube

Ube carries a long and beloved history across the Philippine archipelago.

A staple of Philippine life
For centuries, ube has been cultivated and cherished across the Philippines, woven into the fabric of everyday nourishment and celebration. Long before it captured the world's attention, it was simply home. A root vegetable grown in volcanic soil, harvested by hand and shared across generations.

A plant of celebration and identity
Ube is inseparable from Filipino festivity and identity. From the iconic ube halaya, a slow-cooked purple yam jam passed down through family kitchens, to its place in the beloved dessert halo-halo, ube has always signified joy, abundance and togetherness. Its vivid purple colour is not just visual. It is an expression of Filipino pride and creativity.

A respectful acknowledgement
We honour the farmers, families and communities of the Philippines who have cultivated and celebrated ube for generations. Their knowledge, their land and their traditions make Mutya Ube possible. This powder is crafted in deep respect for that lineage and offered as an invitation to experience its magic in your daily ritual.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is ube?

Ube is a purple yam native to the Philippines, known botanically as Dioscorea alata. It has been cultivated and celebrated across the Philippine archipelago for centuries, prized for its vibrant violet colour, natural vanilla-forward sweetness and impressive nutritional profile.

Is ube the same as taro?

No. Ube and taro are often confused due to their similar appearance on the outside, but they are entirely different plants. Ube is a purple yam with a sweet, vanilla-adjacent flavour and a vivid purple interior. Taro is a starchy root with a more neutral, earthy taste and a pale, speckled flesh. They also come from different plant families.

What does ube taste like?

Ube has a naturally sweet, creamy and mildly nutty flavour with subtle vanilla undertones. It is gentle and comforting on the palate, which is why it pairs so beautifully with plant milks as a latte.

What are the health benefits of ube?

Ube is rich in anthocyanins, the powerful purple pigments that support antioxidant protection, healthy ageing and cellular repair. It is also a natural source of vitamin C, potassium, dietary fibre and resistant starch, supporting immunity, gut health, heart health and sustained energy.

Does ube contain caffeine?

No. Ube is naturally caffeine free, making it a beautiful alternative to matcha or coffee for those who are caffeine sensitive, pregnant or simply looking for a calm, nourishing daily ritual at any time of day.

Is Mutya Ube vegan and gluten free?

Yes. Mutya Ube Pure is 100% pure ube powder with no additives, fillers or preservatives. It is naturally vegan and gluten free. Please check the individual blend ingredients for Ganda and Lakas if you have specific dietary requirements.

Where is your ube sourced from?

Our ube is sourced directly from the Philippines, where purple yam has been grown and cherished for generations. We are committed to responsible and transparent sourcing that honours the land and the communities behind the plant.

How do I prepare Mutya Ube?

Combine 10g of Mutya Ube powder with 50ml warm water and your preferred sweetener. Whisk until fully dissolved. Pour over steamed or cold plant milk for a hot or iced latte, or stir through oats, smoothies and baked goods.

How should I store Mutya Ube?

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Seal the pouch tightly after each use to preserve freshness and colour.

Why is ube so purple?

The vivid purple colour comes from anthocyanins, the same class of antioxidant pigments found in blueberries, red cabbage and acai. The deeper the colour, the richer the anthocyanin content. Ube's purple is not artificial and will naturally vary slightly between harvests.
